2008 GNYADA

This contest is a very invloved contest. It starts with a introduction to the event at the New York Auto Show. The next day is the part of the contest were the students work on the stations. A station is were the students have to complete a series of tasks. It could be anywhere from measurements, to operating equipment. They are usually 20 stations that students have to complete. Every year is different so a student that does go to this contest must be well versed. This leg of the constest usually takes about 3 hours. We spend the remainder of the day in the auto show and visiting the Big Apple.

The next day is the hands on portion. The two students compete on there assigned vehicle. They have to fix it properly and by the book. They also have to write down their repairs and diagnosis on a repair order. The time limit is 3 hours to finish. Scoring for this part of the contest does not include there final time. So finishing first does not matter. However following the service manual does. If they procede with repairing the vehicle without refering to the service manual, points will be deducted.

After the hands on contest, we prepare for the awards banquet. It is a formal dinner event were suits and ties are expected. If the student wins, they win big. From tools, to a car, the prizes are in the tens of thousands of dollars.
